Person Who Sold the iPhone Prototype Revealed

We knew that police had identified and questioned the person who found and sold the iPhone prototype, and now his identity has been publicly revealed.

According to an investigation by Wired, the person who sold Gizmodo the iPhone prototype is 21-year-old Brian Hogan of Redwood City, California. Wired uncovered his identity after following a trail of clues on social media websites, some of which have now been taken down.

Jeffrey Bornstein, the attorney representing Hogan, provided a statement to Wired stating that Hogan “regrets his mistake in not doing more to return the phone.” He apparently had a friend try to contact Apple Care in order to return the phone, but not much else was done to try and return the device. After that, the iPhone prototype was shopped around until Gizmodo paid $5,000 for the device.

Hogan is letting his lawyer do the talking and for good reason. He’s at the center of an ongoing criminal investigation and anything he says could be used as ammunition in an eventual lawsuit. Now that his identity has been revealed, we will likely learn even more details about how he obtained the iPhone prototype and just how it ended up in the hands of Gizmodo
